THINKING BACK

Grundy Center Community School District Mission Statement

The Grundy Center School’s “community” will empower its individuals with the attitudes, skills, and knowledge to become responsible, productive, and fulfilled citizens.

This is the mission statement that is supposed to drive our decisions as we consider practical matters of providing relevant experiences for you.

Today I would like you to think about your high school experience at Grundy Center.
For you, how did the school meet your needs as responsible, productive, and fulfilled citizens?
What went well for you? What did you like about the school?

What would have been the most positive change the school could have made to meet your needs more effectively?

  1. i feel that it is the same as every other school and that this is just how schools work. Having difficult times in highschool prepares us for the future so i think its okay for it to not be perfect.

  2. I think that students need to have more input and that it should be a little bit more open in classes see what the students want. PE is PHYSICAL EDUCATION needs to fun needs to be a place where students can release their energy.

  4. the school did a good job of providing a good learning environment for students who wanted it. The teachers for the most part did a good job of controlling their classes. i would like to take more classes with different people in our school. Many of the classes i took didnt allow me to take classes with new people.

  5. Most teachers give students respect during the school year and it helps them be more responsible because they know that teachers trust them. But when the students don't deserve the respect, some teachers don't give it to them, resulting in the students disrespecting them... so I would say to have teachers at least try to give respect to everybody, even if they don't deserve it.

What went well for me was I did my work and I believe I earned the grades I got and the somewhat easier classes this year, because of the work I did the last 3 years. I liked having personal relationships with the teachers. It was easier to learn because of it.

The most positive change for me that I would like to see would be (if they earn it)to have an open campus for lunch. That would be the only change I would like.

  6. I think that the PE program could be changed. It would be better if the students got into it unlike they do now. Otherwise a agree with Cassie about its school and its prepares us for the future! Our school spirit could be better but i think the students have a lot of control over that. but teachers could help students get excited!!!!

  7. Grundy Center was a great place to learn. Good environment and great teachers! The staff has definitely made the years fun! If i had to change something it would be open campus for lunch. Its nice to eat what you want once in a while or run home if need something. Also just change school up so it doesnt drag on. Thats a tough thing to satisfy, but it would make high school more fun.

  9. I feel that our school does not do a good job of preparing students to know what they want to do for a carrer. I think that it is a huge problem that a very large group of kids have no idea what they want to do when they graduate. in turn they dont know what they want to do for ollege and end up wasting lots oftime and money. i think that schools should do a lot more for providing carrer opportunities

  10. superdupercomment-the senior door thing became a problem, can't haze so youngsters get cocky and mouth off which leads to no seniority, open campus would be a nice reward for a person with good integrity. most stuff went well dont have much to complain about, got a good set of teachers. jordan, levi, kraig.

  11. It helped me become more responsible, productive, and fulfilled as a citizen by preparing me for the real world and giving me opportunities like scholarships and senior release. Senior release helps me out a lot Just the fact that I have that extra hour to do my homework and get caught up really helps. I appreciate that.

I like how the teachers help out with things. I like the part where I am gonna be graduating early thanks to the Board of Education. The most positive change the school made for me I guess really was just the senior release thing.

Yes I think that the school could improve much, because it doesn't seem as strict. I beleive that the staff and principals are working to make it like that. I honestly do not like the whole ides on doing everything on computer. Not everybody has access to it, but it may work if the school could provide that for the students.

  12. I feel that GC has given me an enormous range of opportunities. From Academic Decathlon, KMO, know your constitution, and the classes that we are doing for college credit, such as Comp 2. The openings that present themselves here are quite broad, and what you accomplish is directly related to how much you work. The sky is the limit if you have a hard work ethic. While the journey may only begin at Grundy Center, every journey needs a first step. I believe that Grundy Center does live up to its mission, and when students work hard to achieve their ultimate dream, they can fulfill this creed.

  13. As a foreign exchange student from developing country, this school has help me with the use of advance technology and organized teaching techniques with respect from both student and teachers.
What I like about the school is the perfect number and size of the school and computers and the teachers.

The difference between school and life? In school you are taught a lesson and then given a test. In life you are given a test that teaches you a lesson
