THINKING BACK

Grundy Center Community School District Mission Statement

The Grundy Center School’s “community” will empower its individuals with the attitudes, skills, and knowledge to become responsible, productive, and fulfilled citizens.

This is the mission statement that is supposed to drive our decisions as we consider practical matters of providing relevant experiences for you.

Today I would like you to think about your high school experience at Grundy Center.
For you, how did the school meet your needs as responsible, productive, and fulfilled citizens?
What went well for you? What did you like about the school?

What would have been the most positive change the school could have made to meet your needs more effectively?

CANCER AWARENESS DAY

On February 10th, 1999, at 11:30 p.m. my sister, Jean, died one half hour before her 56th birthday. During her fight against breast cancer, she courageously volunteered to be part of a study on the drug tamoxifen. Although it was too late for Jean, there is evidence that the drug has been successful in treating and preventing breast cancer for many women. My family is thankful that Jean was selfless and brave enough to be part of this phenomenal breakthrough in the global battle against this dreadful disease.

Today I am grateful for the lives of all men and women who fight the battle against cancer. I pray that in your life time cancer can be eradicated, and the world can be cancer-free!

MIDTERM SUCCESSES

In 18 weeks you will be graduating. Sometimes seniors want to skip the last months and just head right on across the stage.
Since this is not our reality, I would like you to take some time today to take stock of your behaviors and attitudes.

Is this happening to you?
How are you coping?
What academic challenges will you be facing in the next 18 weeks?
What you have done well so far your senior year?
What do have yet to accomplish?

When you wake up on graduation day, what one thing would you like to be able to say to yourself?

NEW YEAR'S HOPES AND DREAMS

I have to confess I have only exercised once since the new year. What do you do to get and keep motivated?

Also, today, share your experiences with choosing a college or your plan for after graduation. What makes you glad? What road blocks stand in your way? How are you coping with the stress (if there is any)?

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Let's keep this blog going for a while longer and share our hopes and dreams for 2010. We could also add resolutions and other challenges.

My hope is that we have fun together as we look forward to graduation!
My resolution is seriously . . . to exercise at least five times a week so I can keep up with Owen and Austin! Your job in this is to keep me honest.

Have a great start to this, your "banner" year:-)!

Christmas Message

My wish for all of you is a happy, fulfilled life. I am truly grateful for the gifts I have been given: my faith, my family, my students, my friends.

DECEMBER "GRATEFUL FOR" WEEK FOUR

I am grateful today for my students and the other seniors who are participating in this blog conversation. I am grateful that I am getting to know you better.
